Understanding Forex

UNDERSTANDING FOREX

The foreign exchange market is the largest and most liquid financial market in the world. Currency pairs quote how much of the quote currency is needed to buy one unit of the base currency.

What is a pip?
A pip is the smallest standard price move, usually the fourth decimal for major USD pairs.
What is the bid-ask spread?
The difference between the buy (ask) and sell (bid) price. Tighter spreads mean lower trading costs.
Why do economic events move currencies?
Central bank decisions and inflation data change interest-rate expectations, which drive currency demand.
What are the major currency pairs?
The majors all include the US dollar: EUR/USD, USD/JPY, GBP/USD, USD/CHF, AUD/USD, USD/CAD and NZD/USD.
