Brave has deployed the first, full public release of its integrated Binance widget for the desktop version of its web browser software yesterday. Previously, only a previous version of this widget had been available to all users.

The widget was first revealed back on March 24, 2020 along with the announcement of Brave and Binance’s partnership. In this announcement, Brave described the forthcoming release as the first exchange - browser integration of its kind.

It enables users to view their Binance account balances across all possible assets directly from the browser. Other features include the ability to make deposits to their account from external addresses by generating a deposit address or QR code representation; the conversion of one asset for another through the exchange platform; in addition to crypto purchases and sales.

Binance is one of (if not the) largest cryptocurrency exchanges around in terms of trading volume; whilst Brave is the organisation behind Brave Browser, a web browser built on the Chromium framework (which also powers Google Chrome). They claim the browser delivers  greater speed, privacy and security compared to its peers: including an in-built layer which blocks advertising, malware and popups - as well as trackers.

Brave also implements a unique cryptocurrency based economy around its ‘BAT’ (Basic Attention Token) crypto - which acts as a utility token. BAT is used as a rewards currency as well as a means by which users can directly donate to content creators.

In tandem with this news, company leaders Changpeng ‘CZ’ Zhao (Binance, CEO) and Brendan Eich (Brave Software, Co-Founder and CEO) broadcast an AMA which was streamed live on YouTube where the two convened via remote video-link.

Brave To Integrate BUSD?

The AMA between Changpeng Zhao and Brendan Eich took place on May 5, 2020 - and contained a handful of interesting soundbytes regarding their partnership, and the widget itself.

Brendan Eich stated that he believes that browsers are like universal apps, due to the fact that they act as an intermediary software that absorbs data from a lot of other applications. In line with this, he states that the Brave-Binance partnership is exemplary of Brave’s potential, as a browser, to serve this purpose specifically to the crypto / blockchain communities.

He also expressed the value of integrating a digital asset payments service into a web browser, as users can pay using a trusted third party payment layer removing the need to store credit card information on each individual ecommerce merchant’s server. Extra security as there are limited places from which your payment information can be compromised.

Changpeng Zhao suggested that he was in favour of the possibility for Binance tokens BNB - or more likely its stablecoin BUSD might be added to Brave Browser as a method of donating to content creators.

The Widget

Brendan Eich reassured that security for the Binance Widget in Brave browser is ensured through auth API - which provides a comprehensive encryption solution. On the same subject: Zhao highlighted the anti-phishing qualities it provides, as a direct and official means of accessing core functions on the Binance digital asset exchange; avoiding the potential for following fraudulent links.

On the mobile version of the browser and when its version may be released: Eich states that there is no timeline currently available, whilst hinting that it would be coming “later this year”. He excuses this by claiming that the team is currently  “working on making the desktop version even better. And then when we get to mobile”.

Eich also envisions a future where binance purchase options are integrated into e-commerce platforms, as a result of strategic partnerships.
