The Blockchain for ID Cards
The Blockchain for ID Cards
It is very difficult to create a piece of identification that is 100% secure and not falsifiable.
Attempts have been made based on the recognition of iris or fingerprints. But biometric IDs need a lot of infrastructure and have a cost that is prohibitive.
Other less expensive attempts are also less safe.
Personal data kept on Blockchain
Canada has found a much cheaper and 100% secure solution called Blockchain.
Blockchain technology will store all information about a person with a simple phone number.
If someone needs to transmit his personal data, he will only have to send his private key to the institution that claims them, and this data, through the Blockchain, will only be available for the institution concerned.
This system will therefore be available to Canadian citizens and will serve people who do not want their personal information stored in multiple locations and can be easily hacked.
For non-Canadians, private companies like SelfKey will offer equivalent solutions.
This system will come into effect in Canada in early 2018.
