The course of Bitcoin has continued to flare up in recent days, causing as much controversy as it has excitement. While some think that this is only a bubble and remain wary, others have ventured in head first. Today, they can rejoice because this dematerialized currency has made them immensely rich.

Bitcoin Millionaires

Who would have thought of its launch in 2009, that Bitcoin would make happy? Not many people.

This encrypted currency, which embodies a whole new ideology, was seriously ignored at first. It was only around 2013, when its value rose to $1000, that this crypto-currency seriously began to take off. The investors who had enough guts to embark on this crazy adventure can now celebrate their daring ventures. Calling them Bitcoin millionaires or billionaires is a bit of an understatement.

The Bitcoin Celebrities

The Winklevoss Brothers - Tyler and Cameron Winklevoss are now in the news because of the soaring value of Bitcoin – which currently sits at more than $15 000. This makes the brothers the first well-known Bitcoin billionaires. In fact, back in 2013, they had said that they invested nearly $11 million in Bitcoin. According to the Telegraph, their fortune now exceeds $1 billion. They have even recently created Gemini, their own Bitcoin exchange platform back in 2015.

Satoshi Nakamoto - The creator of Bitcoin is the first Bitcoin billionaire, even if his identity is not truly known by anyone. He can be considered the very first investor in Bitcoin and his fortune in Bitcoins now equals more than $ 1.1 billion.

Gavin Andresen – He succeeded Satoshi back in 2010 and is Chief scientist of the Bitcoin Foundation. He is responsible for keeping the Bitcoin code up-to-date. His fortune is now valued at $2 million.

Yifu Guo – Guo is known for creating the very first Bitcoin miners. In 2012, he started the company Avalon which specializes in this type of mining rig. He has a fortune that is valued at $5 million.

Charlie Shrem – This Bitcoin millionaire started by buying Bitcoins during its low times. After the fall of his first company, Bit Instant, he spent two years in prison and then he launched Intellisys Capital in 2016. A firm specializing in the sale of investment portfolios within blockchain companies. His fortune is valued at $ 54 million

Roger Ver – Sometimes considered as “Bitcoin Jesus”, he has always been a strong advocate and contributor to crypto-currency. Back in 2011, he had started buying Bitcoin when it was only worth $1. Now, with his wealth, he has funded startups such as Bit Instant, which is owned by his friend, Charlie Shrem. Ver’s fortune is estimated at about $52 million.

Other Crypto-Currencies to Keep an Eye On

Although Bitcoin is the most prominent, there are also a few other cryptos that you might want to keep an eye on.

  •         Ether – In existence since 2015, its value went from 3 euros to 300 euros in only a few months. This crypto-currency also allows you to create apps.
  •         The Ripple – Making its first appearance in 2012, it owes its value to the investments of major banks such as UBS and the Bank of America.

·         Litecoin – Started in 2011, this crypto-currency is very much inspired by Bitcoin itself. Its main difference is a much faster transaction time. It has been gaining popularity due to its availability on Coinbase.
